After some minor television appearances, Hartman got her first major acting role at just 21 years old, starring as the titular character in Tabitha (a spin-off of Bewitched) from 1977 to 1978. While this was her first big time gig, the rising actress had her breakthrough moment just four years later, starring as a singer named Ciji Dunne on Knots Landing — running for 14 seasons, the soap opera was a smash hit.

After just one year on the show, Hartman’s character unexpectedly died, causing her to be removed from Knots Landing in 1983. After a public uproar ensued, Hartman was brought back as a different character, another singer named Cathy Geary, remaining on the show until 1986.

Since that moment, the oh-so talented actress has appeared on numerous television shows, such as MatlockThe HitchhikerPerfect Crimes2000 Malibu RoadJudith Krantz’s Dazzle and more, however, Knots Landing still prevails as her biggest acting role to date.

Given that her role on Knots Landing was a singer both times around, Lisa Hartman Black began to dabble in the music industry around this same time, recording four solo albums between 1976 and 1987: Lisa HartmanHold On, Letterock and ‘Til My Heart Stops.

While she has released dozens of songs during her time in the music industry, her most notable track is “If Love Must Go” off of Letterock, which she performed on various television shows around this time.

Duets With Husband Clint Black

After falling in love with her now-husband in 1990, the actress-turned-singer finally had her breakthrough moment within the music industry with “When I Said I Do,” a duet with Clint Black.

In an exclusive interview with People, the couple gushed about how Clint got Lisa back into singing just moments after the powerhouse vocalist decided she was giving up on her dream.

“His career was so huge, and I had done my thing, and I just pretty much let it go,” Lisa Hartman Black explained.

Clint chimed in, “I go, ‘Sing this with me,’ because she would sing harmony with me on my favorite songs around the kitchen… After two days we’re singing this song, and she sounds great, and then I told her, ‘You’re going to have to record that with me,’” referencing their chart-topping hit, “When I Said I Do.”
